Next: As a comment on this post explain what you think might be the biggest drawbacks to online learning
Peer Learning: Read the other posts and write a comment explaining how one of the difficulties could be resolved
I believe the biggest drawbacks would be:
ReplyDelete- different students at very different stages in terms of ability
- technology is extremely slow/blocked! hinders learning
- time consuming to set up in the first instance
Well done Marie, som great ideas here!
ReplyDeleteour laptops reguarly do not work.
ReplyDeletealso, its a complicated process logging in, past two login screens. it just needs to switch on and be in the right place when you press the on button.
blogging can be difficult but i am certain that once we control our emotional state of mind we will find a way to support student development
Deletethe 3g pitch is outside
ReplyDeletetechnology can be slow and very unreliable
Liam, it can be slow, however, once the students are logged on they work independently and engage very well.
DeleteLack of confidence in facilitating an online learning session. Perceived lack of control over the discourse of the lesson.
ReplyDeleteIt takes time to load and there can be technical faults right in the middle of the lesson.
ReplyDeleteTechnology does enhance the learning experience but is controlled by outside forces.
ReplyDeleteToo long for the laptop to come on.
students work at different speeds
they may miss the learning focus
I agree. I just started reading the other posts whilst Mr. McCarey was telling us what to do next and now I'm not sure whether I'm doing the right thing or not, and I'm too embarassed to ask... yikes!
Deletefor students working at different speeds perhaps differentiate or provide extensions accordinly
DeleteWading through a sea of nonsense
ReplyDeleteI always do
Deletebetter than most lol
Deletei think it would be difficult to keep the pupils on the right task. I certainly found that when I tried a laptop lesson last week- lots of sneaking off to youtube!
ReplyDeleteplus, this computer is rather slow which is quite irritating
nonsense can be dificult to control
ReplyDeletei think that persistant focus on the nonsense is detracting from the learning that can take place - with the right people to help, the nonsense is dissipated
DeleteMcCabe you big pessismist - have half your lesson in a classroom or computer room! Link to news reviews/articles from newspapers discussing football tactics? Students could comment on something to do with football?
ReplyDeletePS. We're a great team
our students need to have clear expectations and we need to deal with the moments when theoir emotional state of mind is fragile.
